I’ve always been intrigued by the paranormal. When I first discovered the Hoia Baciu forest, I was so excited. Also known as the Bermuda Triangle of Romania, no where else in the world have I found more unexplained stories and folklore. There have been more stories of UFO encounters, ghosts, strange lights and other occurrences.
Located near Cluj, Romania, this forest is the most haunted forest in the world. The forest was named after a shepherd and his sheep unexplainably vanished while traveling through. Since then, there have been hundreds of other accounts of weird activity.
Within this forest there is a circle where nothing will grow. Scientists, botanists and others have tested the soil and the area around it and cannot find an explanation as to why vegetation refuses to grow within this area.
There have been a few US television ghost chasers that have documented their journey through the forest. They have documents strange lights within the forest with no explanation, odd feelings (nausea, anxiety, etc.) and even physical manifestations.
This is probably the #1 place I would like to visit. It’s not a huge tourist destination (although there are plenty of people who do visit because of the strange occurrences). Romania itself would be a very interesting place to go to, but having a place like this to witness as well would be so exhilarating. A round trip plane ticket from NYC at $1500 a pop, however, makes this the number one dream trip for me.
